Clinical Work
Sophia is passionate about working with people from all walks of life and cultural backgrounds, assisting with the latest, evidence-based methods to help people find positive and transformative solutions to their challenges. She has fourteen years of experience working as a clinical psychologist in private practice, working with youth and seniors, individuals, couples and families.
She has particular interests in using CBT methods, as well as Schema and Trauma informed methods (such as Somatic therapies and EMDR) to give people the tools they need to live the life they desire. She also specialises in assisting clients in transforming the deeper origins of their distress and habitual coping patterns.
Sophia obtained her Masters in Clinical Psychology at The University of Melbourne and has completed academic projects with the Australian Centre for Post-traumatic Mental Health, assessing trauma issues in environmental disaster affected communities and workplace populations.
Organisational and Community Work
She has also worked for corporate and community organisations, running a range of sustainable behaviour-change and wellbeing programs and workshops, as well as proving critical incident debriefing and psychological first aid to groups following collective incidents.
Environmental Psychology – Specialist Interest
Sophia currently has a particular interest in assisting the community on the issue of psychological adaptation to climate change, including working with clients who are experiencing eco-grief, eco-anxiety and climate related distress. She also provides voluntary counselling and wellbeing education to people who work on the front line of ecological disasters, through the APS Disaster Response Network.
Researching the psychological risks and mental health impacts of ecological disaster is another specialist interest area of Sophia’s. This includes, looking at emerging evidence about effective psychological treatments and community interventions for climate related mental and social impacts.
